Florid native Blunts & Blondes spoke with us about the origin of his name, getting arrested for starting a mosh pit, and what we can expect from his set at The Underworld. Check out his exclusive interview & mixtape below.

Give us a little bit of insight on your name. Has this always been your artist identity? How did you come up with the moniker?
Well I’ve always smoked a lot of blunts, and I had a blonde girlfriend at the time I started the blunts project, so it just rolled off the tongue easy. Since then, it hasn’t changed.
Which track of yours do you think is the most influential or has given you the most notoriety? Why do you think that is?
I think all my tracks, if you listen to them in order of release, show my progression. I think that in itself kind of gives me notoriety. People can see my skills and taste progressing. I also have my unreleased music I play at shows. My Bad Motha remix caught a lot of attention because someone got a video of Boogie T playing it out. So that gives me some hype I guess.
Do you have any new music coming out soon that we should be pumped up for? Any exciting collaborations you can tell us about?
Yeah definitely. My Bad Motha remix, 2KFO remix, and a couple collabs. I’m working with Rettchit, Rampage, and Snooko, and KTRL. I’m pretty pumped for them. I’m always workin’ on originals though so you never know.
Dubstep has been around for a while now, and we’ve seen it’s ups and downs. Where do you think the sound will be heading in the next few years?
I think dubstep is always going different directions. Whats cool about it now, is that all kinds of dubstep is generally accepted in the mainstream rave scene. So it gives dubstep kind of a bigger shine in the light of electronic music. I think the older sounds are coming back, mixed with the newer shit. It sounds dope.
You got arrested a little while back for starting a mosh pit during one of your sets. How did this whole thing transpire? What was going through your mind while you were being detained?
LOL I was arrested in Clearwater while at a show for inciting a mosh pit and inciting violence against the police department, which is complete bullshit. All of that gave me disorderly conduct so it wasn’t a big deal. The club I guess didn’t understand that moshing was meant for fun, not to hurt anyone. I was also kinda saucy and wasn’t exactly nice to the authorities. Either way, its a fun story to tell.
How rowdy should we expect things to get at The Underworld?
I expect non stop pits with lots of smoking. It’s gonna be fckn awesome.
